1.Are kickboxing and Muay Thai the same?Ive seen vids of both and it’s the same
2.If I were to join a kickboxing school at my current age(15)Are my fights with or without protective equipment,just curious,not that I really need it lol.
3.Do workouts include muscle building such as push ups,crunches,maybe some weights etc.?That is one reason why I want to go from TKD to kickboxing,we don’t do these workouts at my school and I feel weak…
1)A lot of people think that the art of Muay Thai is exactly similar to kickboxing. The reality is no, both are totally different martial arts, the only similarity that exists is that both martial arts are striking arts rather than grappling arts. Muay Thai is a traditional martial art which is practiced in several Southeast Asian countries. It utilizes kicks and punches, but unlike kickboxing, it also utilizes knee and elbow strikes. This makes it completely different because the most important and common moves of Muay Thai are based on knee and elbow strikes. This is one reason that the art is also known as the “art of eight limbs”
Kickboxing is a modern sport, it utilizes kicks and punches only. Very rarely, throws and locks are also included in the syllabus of kickboxing, although they are left out of competitive bouts. The common mistake of thinking of both arts as the same has led to the belief that kickboxing is a version of Muay Thai with several scrapped techniques, in other words, people think of kickboxing as a watered-down version of Muay Thai.
There are also differences between training methods of both arts. Kickboxers train to increase their stamina and to boost the power of their strikes. They attempt to do this by building muscles and hardening limbs. Kickboxers also train with modern day equipment, such as, treadmills. A Muay Thai fighter attempts to increase the effectiveness of his attacks by intense hardening and breaking. The Muay Thai fighter also trains for endurance and strength, just like a kickboxer, while the methods may vary. Muay Thai traning methods remain exclusive to the art. Since the whole world is now literally the same, they may both resort to same training methods.
2)i think for the beginner they should use a Protective gear. because Kick boxing rules pretty much almost the same as Boxing (weight class,etc).
3)TKD is emphasizing on kicking art, sometimes they neglect the important of the upperbody strength, it’s good that if you could apply your TKD skill to Kickboxing but under one condition… you must not use any flashy or fancy Kick inside the ring while up against a kickboxer, they’ll punish you for that =)
