Jeet Kune Do And Meditation
In Jeet Kune Do they teach you the importance of balance. When you meditate, it’s the importance of balance – thoughts vs present moment. You can combine those!
In Bruce Lee’s Tao of Jeet Kune Do, he mentions the importance of practicing balance. The way he suggests practicing balance is by standing on one foot. This is important because it really makes you focus on the balance, and it strengthens how well you balance in everyday situations.
There is one way to make standing on one foot much much harder. That is by closing your eyes as you do it. Once you do that, all you are relying on are your ears to keep you balanced. The funny thing about closing your eyes and balancing is that when you do, you teeter around the room. Once this gets under control, you are really relying on your ears to your your balancing for you, and you can focus on other things. The first thing I focus on is my breath. That is because I don’t want to panic and start to breathe rapidly. If I were to do that, the point of the meditation would be gone! After all, meditation is about taking long deep breaths!
I have found that certain positions enhance my meditations in unusual ways. So, branch out from sitting! Try the lotus position. Try lying down on the ground. And then, try standing up in an active position, and make that even harder by balancing on one foot.
